Choosing Her Own Path
Ashlynn Adams wasn’t ready to end her Girl Scout journey just because her middle school troop disbanded.
“I opted to become a Juliette rather than finding another troop because I wanted to be able to choose my own path in Girl Scouts,” the high school senior explains. Girl Scout Juliettes are individually registered members and is a great way to enjoy Girl Scout programs, earn badges and meet other Juliettes.
Cookie Funded Travel
Ashlynn’s self-directed course as a Juliette has taken her to Mackinac Island, Chicago and Washington D.C. and she has enjoyed each adventure. She funded her travels through cookie sales.
“I work very hard during Girl Scout Cookie season because my favorite part of Girl Scouting are the travel trips,” Ashlynn says.
That hard work was noticed when Ashlynn used the experience on her resume and applied her first job. “I was given my first job because of my Girl Scouting,” she says.
Beyond the Cookie
Ashlynn is hoping that being a part of Girl Scouts since kindergarten will help her after high school graduation. “I hope the dedication and community service helps get me into a good college,” she says.
Community service is an integral part of Ashlynn and her Girl Scout journey.
“When my mom and I went to Washington with the Girl Scouts, I was sad to see so many homeless people,” she remembers. “I wanted to do something, but we were only there for a short time. I went to the local McDonalds and bought around 25 cheeseburger and gave them to some of the homeless people we saw.”
“It wasn’t much, but it was something,” Ashlynn said.
Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan thinks your something, Ashlynn. Something special.
Juliettes can participate in just as many activities as troop members can! I enjoy searching the event calendar for things I can do on my own.
