Volunteering helped Heather Shields do more than spend time with her daughters—it allowed her to fulfill a childhood dream of being a Girl Scout.
In recognition of her work with Waterford Troop 76996, Heather was honored with a Volunteer of Excellence Award in 2023.
“What an amazing accomplishment and feeling knowing I’ve made a good lasting impression on someone enough to nominate me,” Heather said.
“I’m just a mom who wanted to be part of her two daughters’ experience with Girl Scouts,” she said. “When my eldest daughter joined Girl Scouts, I helped where I was needed.”
That included being troop product program manager and co-leader. She has been a part of the Product Program Committee for two years.
“My biggest enjoyment is giving Girl Scouts memories that they will share with others. I love to see the excitement in their faces when we do something exciting,” she said. Heather plans to keep on creating as many field trips and learning experiences to make long-lasting fun memories.
“I hope I inspire the Girl Scouts to continue and become future volunteers to help lead the Girl Scouts of the future,” Heather said.
“I want to help others to be successful and pay it forward in their own way.” – Heather Shields
