A Girl Scout Smile
It was the look on her daughter’s face that convinced Tarcha Wilson to step up and lead Troop 77882.
Through no fault of the girls, the Redford troop was on the verge of being disbanded and Tarcha was not going to let that happen, she explained.
“I loved the look on my daughter’s face when she spoke about her Girl Scout troop,” Tarcha said. “I wanted to continue this adventure for her and all the girls in the troop.”
A Beary Good Time
Tarcha’s favorite memory with her multi-level troop was the party to celebrate their hard work with cookies sales.
“I set up a SURPRISE Build-A-Bear event with the Girl Scout Cookie Build a Bear,” she said. Since the entire troop couldn’t go to the physical store, Tarcha arranged to have the store come to them. She ordered all the bears, materials, and necessary items and hosted the event.
“Everyone loved it,” she said. “Especially the parents.”
Patch Work
The troop’s plan is to have as much fun as possible, and if a patch or badge accompanies the adventure, so much the better.
“We have set a goal to earn as many patches and badges as we can this year, by having fun and working on goal-oriented skills,” Tarcha said. With help from the Redford Fire Department, a local Karate instructor, and a CPR training, the girls are well on their way to earning their Safety Awards, she said.
“I love bringing new experiences to the troop and seeing how they grow, learn, and flourish from hands on teaching and learning,” Tarcha said.
I want troop leaders and volunteers to know that it is hard work, but truly rewarding. If you plan, research, and select the right people to help you, you and the troop will be successful.
