A former Girl Scout herself, Jennifer Sexton has taken on several volunteer roles within the organization, including Product Program Committee member, Troop Leader/Co-Leader, Troop Product Program Manager, and Day Camp Director. Her time and commitment to the Girl Scout program has created unforgettable experiences for her troop, with so much more to come.
Jennifer says she began her journey as a Girl Scout volunteer in an effort to spend more time with her daughters and to give them the same opportunities she had growing up in Girl Scouts. Her favorite part is watching the girls light up as they try new things and make lasting friendships.
Her small, Daisy troop consists of girls from different schools. So naturally her ultimate goal is for them to build lasting friendships, while also growing independent and self-reliant. That should be no problem with this troop, though! They’ve already built a strong bond and have worked hard to create lasting memories. This includes the time Jennifer’s youngest daughter’s troop earned money together and planned trip to Chicago. Jennifer got to watch it all play out first hand and had quite the adventure!
She has this advice for all troop leaders out there:
“It doesn’t matter if things don’t go as planned. The girls only remember the fun and you being there for them.”
Thank you, Jennifer from everyone at GSSEM!
