Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan was proud to have 2026 Gold Award Girl Scout Jasmine Hunley representing GSSEM and young women around the world at the 58th National Council Session in Washington D.C.
Jasmine and her mother Jeri served as delegates, which means they had voting responsibilities that would affect the millions of Girl Scouts around the world.
She was selected by GSUSA to serve as a Youth Leader during the National Council Session.
The NCS business participation was just one part of their exploration of the Girl Scout Movement and Washington D.C.

Part of the Girl Scout Movement
My trip to Washington, D.C. was an unforgettable experience to see famous landmarks for the first time whilst simultaneously enriching myself with Girl Scout history, culture, and the people who shape our world.
Attending the Girl Scouts 58th National Council Session as a National Delegate was especially meaningful because it reminded me of the power of young people coming together to create positive change and advocate for a better future for the social organization.
I had the privilege of being picked as a presiding officer where I got to do a panel with Congresswomen Wasserman Schultz, Congresswomen Underwood, and former National Board President Noorain Khan to introduce the True North Award to a broader audience through a discussion regarding courage, conviction, and character.
Exploring Washington DC
Beyond the National Council Session and Girl Scouts Unite, I had the opportunity to immerse myself in the stories that have shaped our nation by visiting museums and monuments throughout the city.
Walking through the National Museum of African American History and Culture was one of the most impactful moments of my trip, offering powerful lessons about resilience, identity, and the enduring pursuit of justice.
I was equally inspired by the National Museum of Asian Art and the National Museum of African Art, where I gained a greater appreciation for the beauty and diversity of cultures around the world.
I spent three days soaking in history as I had deep, intellectual conversations with my mom as we walked to the next museum. Every place I visited offered a new perspective and left me with something to reflect on.
Bringing it Home
I returned home not only with memories and photographs, but with an even stronger commitment to becoming a leader who creates meaningful change in my community.
I do believe that all Girl Scouts should try to come to a National Council Session. Take the opportunity to apply to NCS in the future and be ready for all of these opportunities!
