When Brittany began volunteering with Clinton Township Troop 77616, becoming troop leader was not her original intent.  

“I initially became a volunteer so I could participate in cookie season with my daughters,” she recalls. Brittany was a Girl Scout as a child.

But once she started, she just couldn’t seem to stop working with the troop, and it was natural for her to become a co-leader.

Thankful for help

As a troop leader, Brittany’s focus is to try as many things with the multi-level troop as possible.

“I love seeing the girls grow and learn new skills that they might not have the opportunity to learn outside of Girl Scouts,” she said.

But she knows it wouldn’t be possible without the support of volunteers.

“Everyone’s lives are busy,” she said. “Even if you can’t commit to weekly meetings, showing up when you can, or helping plan events outside of regular troop meetings, really helps!”

To the Zoo, part 2

Of the many activities Brittany has done with her troop, their first trip to the Toledo Zoo and Aquarium remains one of her most favorite adventures.

The girls camped out in the aquarium and learned about the variety of animals who live there. The troop is going back this year for another sleep over – this time in the polar bear exhibit!

“I’ve had so much fun volunteering over the last five years,” she said, and she’s looking forward to the next five years.
