Project: Bringing Music to the Community
Music class always played a big role in Hailee Milmine’s life, from grade school on to college, where she is currently studying music.
So she was saddened to learn that younger students in her district only received 30 minutes of music a week and she knew she had to do something encourage more music in people’s lives.
For her Gold Award, Hailee decided to fundraise, purchase, and install a musical caterpillar, the beginnings of an all-access musical playscape at an area park.

Music makes a difference
With budgets for school music and arts programs being reduced all the time, coming across this bright xylophone in the farm-theme park might be the first time a child sees an instrument or play with one, Hailee realized.
With that thought in mind, Hailee created easy-to-follow lessons on how to play a simple song, recognize notes, and play correct rhythms for YouTube.
Now, children of all ages have access to an instrument and some form of “music education” during a walk in the park.
Gold lessons
For Hailee, she discovered that through hard work, dedication, and problem solving she could share her love for music with her community and beyond!
