Project: Romeo’s Parkinson’s Conference

Harper’s grandfather’s Parkinson’s prognosis inspired her Gold Award project. She decided to focus on educating people about the disease while providing resources and outreach for people affected by the disease.

Harper determined a one-day conference at the local community center would be the best way to present the subject. She assembled a formidable team of Parkinson’s professionals, specialists, and therapists, all working towards building a community for Parkinson’s patients.

Attendees had the opportunity to visit 10 booths with professionals from the Macomb area and learn about the programs they offer.

Knowledge is power

A number of patients and caregivers attended the conference and left with detailed information and resources.

“The panel came together to answer questions relating to medical treatments, what to expect, and new advances on slowing it down,” Harper said.

Realizing there would be need for information on the subject after the conference, Harper donated books about Parkinson’s disease to the local library so more people could access information on the disease.
