Project: ArtsyVision

With her love of art and a compassionate heart, Julia developed ArtsyVision, to provide empowering healing portraits to disabled or hospitalized young patients as her Gold Award Project.

Through the art club at her high school, she gathered a community of artists to create customized artwork for patients with deformities or injuries.

Her goal was to help combat the messaging many of these young patients see about themselves in the media.

“I really wanted to lessen the stigma surrounding young kids with disabilities,” she said, “While combating the messaging they see about themselves in the media.”

Works of art

Julia and the team created eight free commissioned artworks for young patients.

“Student volunteers worked with patients to determine how they wanted their art to look like,” she explained.  

Some patients asked to be stylized as action heroes like Wonder Woman while others requested something completely different, like the Pokemon piece Julia created.

Julia supported her project through a webpage and social media, in addition to contributing a piece of art.
