Andrea Vann was not going to let her daughter be disappointed when all the local Girl Scout troops were at capacity.

Instead, the former Girl Scout started a new troop!

Important connections

For Andrea, having her daughter involved in Girl Scouting was important because they are a miliary family who move around a lot.

“Girl Scouts is a great way to make new friends and learn about the area,” she said.

Camping moments

Of all the adventures and learning experiences Andrea has created for her troop, it’s the campouts that are her favorite events.

“Camping teaches Girl Scouts great outdoor skills, even if there is usually some ‘mishap’ that happens and it becomes an inside joke,” she said.

For example, one time she accidentally lit a towel on fire and the following year the girls made it into a skit at another campout. “That always makes us chuckle,” she said.

Going for gold

One of the things that Andrea is looking forward to with her multi-level troop is encouraging and supporting her older Girl Scouts as they begin considering Highest Awards projects.

She knows that the preteen years can be a challenge to keep girls interested, but she also knows that keeping at it will pay off.

“Keep trying your best and you’ll have Girl Scouts that will continue on in Girl Scouting and become amazing, impactful individuals,” she said.
