Project: Robotic Outreach for Girls
For her Gold Award project, Jessica encouraged young women to tap into their inner engineer and explore the opportunities that robotics offers.
2-for-1
After 5 years on various school robotic teams, Jessica knows her way around the circuit board. She put her skills to good use as she became mentor and leader of not one, but two, FIRST robotics teams at the middle school.

The Robo Toasters Orange and Blue teams built three robots and participated in 11 competitions, including state finals, earning several awards.

“It was an honor to navigate and be a part of these students journey as they learn the technical skills to build a robot, compete, present and problem solve throughout this year’s competition,” Jessica said. “Knowing these girls had a positive experience in STEM makes me proud.”
Gold lessons
Jessica’s Gold Award journey enriched her problem-solving, communication, and time management skills while reinforcing the importance of collaboration and flexibility in achieving success.
“I also learned to remain open-minded and embrace the creativity the younger students were demonstrating,” she said. “Their fresh perspectives led to innovative solutions that I hadn’t considered!”
Jessica graduated from International Academy West and was part of Troop 70934. She plans to attend Michigan Tech University to study engineering.
