Gold Award Girl Scout Alison Brei

Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan honors Alison Brei with the most prestigious award in the world for girls: the Girl Scout Gold Award. Alison, of Milford, is among 13 young women who have taken the initiative to bettering their communities through sustainable community change projects. The time and commitment they’ve dedicated towards these projects prove they’re true leaders and exceptional examples for all girls to look up to.

The Gold Award is Girl Scout’s highest honor and is presented to Girl Scouts who address a community issue or problem they are passionate about. They’re required to spend a minimum of 80 hours investigating the problem, creating a plan, and implementing it.

For her Gold Award project, Alison took action by teaching high school seniors how to maintain and be aware of healthy relationships, as well as sexual assault prevention. Because of her Gold Award project, high school seniors will now be better equipped when going to college, where 1 in 4 undergraduate women, and 1 in 14 undergraduate men are victimized while on campus. With the help of the senior student government and HAVEN, a local shelter and educational organization, Alison created an annual optional workshop for high school seniors, and raised awareness through the promotion of this workshop. The result is greater awareness of sexual assault and more knowledge on how to prevent it among those most likely to face it in the future.

“Persevering through challenges and collaborating with those around you could make real and lasting differences in your community.”

Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.
