Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan honors Sarah Cromwell with the most prestigious award in the world for girls: the Girl Scout Gold Award. Sarah, of Novi, is among 14 young women who have taken the initiative to bettering their communities through sustainable community change projects. The time and commitment they’ve dedicated towards these projects prove they’re true leaders and exceptional examples for all girls to look up to.
The Gold Award is Girl Scout’s highest honor and is presented to Girl Scouts who address a community issue or problem they are passionate about. They’re required to spend at least 80 hours investigating the problem, creating a plan and implementing it.
For her Gold Award project, Sarah noticed that children sometimes had
a hard time staying focused in classrooms and felt that there was a way
to fix this. She partnered with Novi Woods Elementary school and her
troop to paint a sensory path. Her goal was for the young students to use
this path when they need to release energy, so they can quickly go back
to being focused on school while in the classroom.
“This project taught me how to communicate well with a large group of people and how to lead a big task. I’m so proud of all of my accomplishments!”
