Juliette Spotlight: Jasmine Hunley

Juliette Spotlight: Jasmine Hunley

Girl Scout Juliettes, named in honor of founder Juliette Gordon Low, are for individually registered members who don’t have a local troop or prefer to experience Girl Scouting with their families. This Juliette Spotlight shares exciting and impactful points in a Juliette journey—like an accomplishment, memorable experience, or any other special moment.

Today’s spotlight is on Jasmine Hunley, a student at The University of Detroit Mercy, and the impact of being a Juliette Girl Scout!

Why did you become a Juliette?

Becoming a Juliette gave me the freedom to define my own path, to grow without limits, and to pursue opportunities with authenticity. I turned adversity into fuel, and the challenges I faced became stepping stones rather than stumbling blocks.

As a Juliette, I’ve embraced the power of independence. I found my voice again—not as a whisper, but as a force. Like a river carving its own course, I’ve learned to move around obstacles and create impact on my own terms. This journey has taught me that when one door closes, you don’t wait for it to open, rather you build your own.

What is your favorite part about being a Girl Scout?

My favorite part about being a Girl Scout, especially as an older Girl Scout, is the opportunity to become the very role model I once looked up to. There’s something powerful about being able to talk to younger Girl Scouts. It’s like passing down a torch that’s been burning brightly in my hands for over a decade. Having the privilege to watch them take hold of that spark and begin to shine in their own unique ways fills me with hope.

Girl Scouts taught me how to lead, how to listen, and most importantly, how to believe in myself. That impact is something I now strive to reflect in the lives of others, every time I speak up, show up, and stand up.

What is your best memory of being a Juliette?

My best memory as a Juliette was visiting the GSSEM Detroit location for the first time. I was nervous—unsure of what to expect, unsure if I truly belonged. But I listened to my mom and took a leap of faith, stepping far outside my comfort zone. I had no idea that a single decision would shape the entire year of my life in the most beautiful and unexpected ways.

This event opened a door not just to a building, but to a world of opportunity. I met people who lit a fire in me—women and leaders who believed in mentorship, advocacy, and authenticity. I became part of the GSSEM Advisory Board, spoke on issues close to my heart, and eventually had the life-changing opportunity to attend the United Nations.

Being able to speak and have my voice heard, especially about the things I believe in was empowering in ways I can’t fully explain. It felt like watching a stone drop into still water and seeing ripple after ripple of growth, connection, and impact unfold.

That moment in Detroit was more than a memory—it was a beginning. A reminder that courage often starts with a whisper of faith, and that sometimes, the most powerful chapters in your story begin the moment you stop letting fear write it for you.

What are your goals?

I want to continue mentoring and uplifting youth, especially youth from underserviced communities, to help them recognize their power and potential. Through every speech I give, every project I lead, and every connection I build, I hope to create spaces where people feel seen, heard, and supported—just like Girl Scouts has done for me.

Long-term, I see myself leading large-scale initiatives that blend ethics, education, and grassroots activism. But I also want to live a life of integrity and impact—one where my values guide every decision, and my actions ripple out to make the world a better, more just place.

What do you want other Juliettes to know?

As a Juliette, you have the unique power to shape your own path. Seize every moment, even the uncomfortable ones—because that’s where growth lives. Girl Scouts has opened doors for me that I never imagined: I’ve met mentors, joined life-changing programs, and even spoken on international platforms. And it all started because I chose to keep showing up for myself, even when things got hard.

Your journey may look different, but that doesn’t make it any less powerful. You belong here—and your story is still being written no matter what stage you are in life.

Girl Scouts taught me that being a leader doesn’t always mean following the traditional path. Sometimes, it means forging your own—and I’m proud that I had the courage to do just that.
